Crimson Scars is a Pokemon doujin (A kind of fanfiction in the form of a graphic novel/manga) that is based on the author's views of the Pokemon mainstream. It was inspired by Yoshihiro Takahashi's manga, Ginga Nagareboshi Gin, a manga about dogs who return to the wild with dangerous enemies and serial killer bears.
In fact, the author admits that several cast names in this doujin came from Yoshihiro Takahashi's mangas. Most however were not.
Crimson Scars first began as an actual story fanfiction, published on www.fanfiction.net with the title of Legend: Scarlet Eyes sometime during 2007. The author originally planned to write a prequel and a sequel, hence the Legend sub name. This was later canned though but you still never know what the future may hold in store.
After some time, the author (a.k.a me :P) had decided to take down the story with the plans to later rewrite it, after the prequel was complete. Eventually the prequel was discontinued having only two chapters and the rewrite of Scarlet Eyes was never done. However I still had plans to find ways to bring back Scarlet Eyes.
It wasn't until I found my way to Smack Jeeves and bought a Bamboo Fun tablet (with came with Photoshop Elements), that I realized I could turn my story project into a graphic novel instead. After some hard thoughts, I had decided to rename the fiction as Crimson Scars - meaning that nearly every character gets scarred in one way or another, and that the pain feels like crimson fires. That and the main character, Akame the Quilava, is a fire type.
Changes from the Fanfiction:
Prologue Changes:
The fanfiction would now be considered to be a 'prototype' of sorts, there have been many changes and a few plot changes from before. Here is a listing of them.
*Originally there was no 'full prologue' of the introduction and Kurojaki's coming before The Great Route Fire began in the fanfiction. In the fic, it skipped right to the point where Akame ran away from the burning route.
*Mosu, Akatora and Saburo also weren't originally in the prologue, but were added in this prologue to fill some gaps. Also originally Akatora never had his muzzle split open, this was added to differ him from the other Growlithes.
*In the fic when Akame returned to his destroyed home route, there was no scene where he found his father's charred body. He also had no 'word flashbacks' either in the fic.
Chapter 1 Changes:
*Originally in the fic, Akame returned to his destroyed home route in the prologue, and not in the following chapter.
*Originally the Murkrows didn't have a leader, and there was no Honchkrow either. Also the dialogue between them and Akame was different.
*The dialogue between Akame and Haruka at their 'campsite' was also very different, especially its conclusion.
Author:
The author of both the original fanfiction and this doujin is Crystalbear, whose now unused pen name on www.fanfiction.net was Keppenkaren. C.B. is a 15 year old girl who loves to draw and write in her spare time.
She is a fan of quite a lot of things. Including but not limited to, Pokemon, Yoshihiro Takahashi's works, Ace Attorney/Gyakuten Saiban, animals and plenty of other things.
C.B. also helps with drawing the pages as well. But due to changes in her family and routine, she is somewhat unable to draw pages full time.
Artist(s):
Le Jelleh is the current co-artist of Crimson Scars, he has his own various hand drawn comics, his most well known being Romeo which is about a Clefairy. C.B. met him after reviewing on his comics and eventually he had noticed the classified that C.B. had posted in need of a new artist, and soon Le Jelleh joined to help out. :)
Chako was the co-artist for Prologue, Pages 1-4. She has her own hand-drawn comic on Smack Jeeves with lovely artwork. C.B. met her on the Smack Jeeves forums after I had posted an ad looking for an artist. For about 4 to 6 weeks, Chako has offered her time to draw the first four pages of Crimson Scars. We thank her for her great and wonderful help. :)
